Lit Review – The Wedding Date & related titles

Hey all! I’m here today to tell you that if you’re looking for a fun series to fill some time, look no further than Jasmine Guillory’s books starting with The Wedding Date.  While these titles aren’t a series in the most traditional sense, they feature recurring characters who are fun, strong, sexy women and the men they make work for their affections.  They were truly some of the most enjoyable books I’ve read this year.  And while it’s not essential to read them in order, I would recommend you do so in order to avoid spoilers.

The Wedding Date starts with a meet-cute in a broken down elevator.  The Proposal features an unexpected popping of the question and the outcome when you decline in front of thousands of people.  The Wedding Party pairs two people at odds, with major roles in their friend’s upcoming nuptials.  Royal Holiday reminds you that romance is a joy at any stage of life.  I’m really looking forward to reading Party of Two which was just released June 23.

It’s fun to find the ties that bind the characters across these books, but I’m also delighted that Guillory has managed to tell individual stories of many of them, because it’s a cute crowd that I’d like to be friends with. Honestly, I loved the beginning of The Proposal so much because the scene where they are rehashing the nightmare of the title made me feel like I was sitting right there with all of them. I would recommend sipping on a margarita, which happens to be one of character Theo’s specialties.  Theo is a consistent presence in most of the books, but in The Wedding Party we discover his penchant for well-crafted #cocktails.  Use Kelley’s simple syrup recipe from earlier this week to make Theo’s version from that book.

Don’t forget to check your local library or independent bookstore for copies of this enjoyable series, and have a listen to our upcoming podcasts for other lit reviews!
