Hey all!
I decided to take yet another look back through some of my old favorites and share them with you. Sometimes, the wait lists for new items at your library, or even just the wait for new books from your favorite authors, can seem interminable.
Maybe you’ll recall that some of my tricks for those waiting periods include:
- rereading Anne of Green Gables or The Witch of Blackbird Pond
- choosing a genre in one of my library ebook apps and going to the VERY END of the results list and working backwards, as the books at the end were less likely to be checked out already
- searching for a popular authors earlier works
- hitting up my reader friends for their older favorites
- looking up “best of” lists from at least 5 years ago
Whatever you do, I would recommend the 10 books listed below, which are a little older and therefore might not be in such high demand. These are in no particular order, they are all memoirs, and I read them in 2016 or earlier. One of the things I like best about memoirs is that almost always I learn something new about the subject that I had not heard elsewhere. I hope that you find someone among these writers that you love.
- The Idiot Girls’ Action Adventure Club by Laurie Notaro
- Let’s pretend this never happened by Jenny Lawson
- Bitter is the new black by Jen Lancaster
- Scrappy Little Nobody by Anna Kendrick
- Talking as fast as I can by Lauren Graham
- I was told there’d be cake by Sloane Crosley
- Knucklehead by Jon Scieszka
- King of the Mild Frontier by Chris Crutcher
- Yes, please by Amy Poehler
- Bossypants by Tina Fey
I’d love to have a beer with any one of these people, so I recommend your favorite Oktoberfest brew to complement any of these books.
