Hey all!
On episode 13 of the podcast, Kelley and I made hyggeligt hot chocolate for our drink of the episode. It got *very* cold here this week, and spiking a hot chocolate is a relaxing and easy way to indulge in a treat, and can be done with a bunch of things from your home bar. And it turns out, our new downtown social district is going to have hot cocoa strolls as a fundraiser on Thursday nights, so we’ll have another opportunity to imbibe some creative concoctions.
I have a few good ways to enjoy my hot chocolates. They’re oldie-but-goodie recipes.
First, I love a healthy glug of peppermint schnapps in my hot chocolate. But its gotta be good, creamy hot chocolate. So choose your favorite base – mine is Ghiradelli – stir it up and mix with the schnapps. Simple and satisfying.
Second, use the same base as above, but instead of peppermint schnapps, add Baileys. I love Bailey’s. I buy it by the half gallon.
Third, the way we drank it in episode 13 added flavored vodka. I had whipped cream vodka in mine, while Kelley mixed in vanilla. I ran out of caramel during my countdown to Christmas cocktail endeavor, but I bet that would have been good too. We were both happy with our choices.
My Ghiradelli mix is almost gone, and I think my last mug (until I can get to the store again) will include a shot of peanut butter whiskey. I can’t imagine that not being good!
The point, really, is that while its cold enough outside to justify drinking hot, sweet confections in a mug every night, do it and add anything you think makes chocolate better.
Enjoy, friends!
