Advanced Reader Copies

You guys! I am so excited!

Back in February (which seems like a lifetime ago), Jaclyn and I went to Nashville for the Public Library Association Conference. I think we might have mentioned this in earlier posts. This conference is the best conference ever – free food, drinks, swag, books, etc. And, of course, you learn a lot too.

The Exhibit Hall is full of publishers and vendors offering all kinds of services to libraries. And, if you sign up for a demo, you get swag. Trust me, I have learned how to get all the free stuff I can.

One of the vendors I stopped at was called Edelweiss Plus. This is a site where publishers list titles that are upcoming and you are able to request Advanced Reader Copies. The Rep told me that publishers love librarians and that I should create an account and start browsing through the titles.

I created a profile right before the pandemic hit and before I was furloughed. It was recommended your profile be “strong”. I think that means you fill everything out – the more information you add the stronger your profile becomes. So I did. And, my profile was pretty strong. But, I requested a title and never got approved. [Insert sad face here]

Here’s the exciting part! After Jaclyn and I created this blog, I added the blog to my profile. Then I went in and saw that the new Sophie Kinsella book was available to request. So I requested it.

And guess what?!

I was approved for a downloadable advanced reader copy!!! I just downloaded it today.

And, do you know what other title I was able to download?! The new Stephanie Plum novel coming out in November!

Now I need to go back in and see what other titles are coming out soon and request more.

This is so exciting! I’m like a kid in a candy store. I hope to share my finds with you in the form of recommendations.

Happy Reading!
